Dollars for Change Updates

March 2008.  I was fortunate enough to travel to Jackson, Wyoming in February and meet a great group of people that work for Cloudveil, an outdoor apparel company.  One of my best friends in the world, Laura, works as Cloudveil’s production coordinator and organized an internal sale in which all proceeds were donated to Dollars for Change.  The Fundraiser resulted in an astounding $1,865 just in time for my departure to South Africa.  A special thanks to Laura and everyone at Cloudveil for their generosity and support.

The fifth graders at Increase Miller Elementary School had their annual Spring Fair and used it as an opportunity to raise money for DFC for the second year in a row.  In just one day, they raised a grand total of $1,654.29, surpassing their goal.  Thank you Increase Miller!

December 2007. Dollars for Change is pleased to announce that it is now a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization!! We received the letter from the IRS just before DFC's first birthday and a few days later, a plane ticket to South Africa scheduled for March 18th was purchased. Dollars for Change would like to thank the Verrill Foundation, who generously donated funds for that plane ticket on Christmas day.

The Dollars for Change charity wine tasting was a huge success, raising just over $1,000. Many thanks to all who attended and helped with this wonderful night.

Over the past month, around $900 has been donated in loving memory of my grandfather, Bill, who passed away in late October. His love, compassion, and respect for others reflect the ideals of Dollars for Change, and will continue to influence me throughout my life. I greatly appreciate all the donations that have been contributed in honor of the most wonderful person I will ever know.

May 2007. This Memorial Day, a very special eight-year old girl named Emma gave 5 minute backrubs to her family for the price of fifty cents. Emma donated all her proceeds to Dollars for Change, bringing the balance up to $5,802. Thank you Emma!!

April 2007. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Utah State University dedicated all the proceeds from ticket sales for their Spring formal to Dollars for Change. The event raised over $700 while also spreading awareness to fellow students on world poverty and the goals of Dollars for Change.

March 2007. Thanks to a group of dedicated, ambitious fifth graders from New York, Dollars for Change received its largest donation to date. With everything from bake sales to raffles, this bunch of creative young individuals showed everyone around them the impact of one dollar and what that translates to when people work together. Their efforts resulted in a grand total of $1,539 in donations, a number that exceeds the population of their elementary school, and almost doubles DFC's current balance. Many thanks to the fifth graders at Increase Miller Elementary School for their dedication and overwhelming support. Full Article
